On-line monitoring of run-off organics
After a prolonged dry period, heavy rainfall in a catchment area can yield unacceptably high levels of organics and toxic analytes in a river system flash flood. Water-treatment plants that process this raw water with high agricultural analytes, then have flocculants added that make it unacceptable to return to the river system. Systea have developed a unique analyser that is able to measure the contaminants at the treatment plant intake. The on-line monitoring allows the treatment plant to implement diversion procedures before the run off contaminants enter the processing stream. The analayser simultaneously outputs colour and total 'organics'. The patented system allows readings to be taken from high turbidity inputs associated with run off flushes.
